Stop 13: Clarksville, IN

Today's journey was trying. We headed North out of Nashville and completely crossed the state of Kentucky from South to North. Clarksville is on the Indiana side of the Ohio River directly across the bridge from Louisville.

The trying part was that they are building a new bridge across the Ohio and, at the same time, reconfiguring the old bridge. Naturally, all of the approaches through Louisville are also being reconfigured. Towing a trailer through that mess was a nightmare.

Apparently, this is will be our only exposure to Indiana on this trip. Our next stop is in Ohio and we had thought that we'd be cutting across the Southeastern corner of Indiana to get there. But no, the route is much shorter if we recross into Louisville and follow the Ohio River on the Kentucky side before eventually crossing the river into Ohio. So, it looks like we get to brave the bridge and Louisville again.

We are staying at one of the most un-KOA like KOAs that we've ever seen. It, essentially is about 20 spaces behind a beat up old gas station. The check-in desk is the cashier in the quickie-mart. The bathrooms are the restroom bathrooms and you have to go inside to ask for the key. Well worth the $40 per night I'd say.

This just in... I've mentioned that every RV park has it's sources of noise. Since we've arrived, it's been obvious that the berm across the driveway from us is all that is separating us from the River. We can hear the boat traffic. The new development is that the railroad tracks run on top of the berm. As I type, a freight train is slowly rumbling by about 50 feet away from me. Hope it doesn't run at night!
