Stop 9: Mount Pleasant, TX

We had some pretty incredible weather last night. Our AccuWeather had sent out a severe thunderstorm alert for a storm that would start at 12:30 AM. The storm started right on schedule at 12:30. Over less than an hour, we had 4 inches of rain. The lightning was a non-stop strobe and the thunder never let up for an instant. The thunder was just a constant roar. There was apparently some hail in there too but who could tell with all the noise.

The weather people on the news were saying things like "I've been in this area over 20 years and I've never seen anything like it!". Around the RV Park, people were taking pictures of their RV's sitting in lakes. Fortunately, we'd spotted the lake potential with the spot that we were first assigned to and had ourselves moved to a spot with better drainage.

The TV weather reports showed the storm band slipping slowly to the East, and from everything that we could tell, it was going to hit Mount Pleasant between 10 AM and 1 PM. We wasted some time starting out but still arrived in Mount Pleasant just after 1 PM. The storm had gone through earlier in the morning and the Sun had broken through, creating a sauna effect.

Unlike most of the places that we've been, Mount Pleasant is lush and green. I expect that lush and green is going to be the rule, rather than the exception from now on.

As I write this, we're sitting outside our trailer, catching a refreshing breeze.

A pond near our trailer.

Our trailer from the pond.
